Don’t be fooled by the exterior of the building … there is much more to the Hotel Shakespeare than you can see from the outside.

The current brick premises built in 1925 were preceded by a timber building from 1886-1924.

There are many stories connected with the hotel’s important place in Barcaldine’s history.

Over the years there has inevitably been some changes to the layout, but they have been minimal. The original features are still prominent, on the ground floor in the bar area and up the stairs in the accommodation area.

The tour is conducted by the current owner, Sharon Broughton, highlighting the stories and the changes to the site over the past 139 years.
